The Details

Date: October 17, 2026
Time: 8:30 a.m.
Location: Piper Trail, Albany, New Hampshire
Distance: 9 miles round trip
Elevation Gain: 3,038 feet
Difficulty: Difficult

We’ll begin on the Piper Trail, making our way over Middle Sister before continuing toward the rocky summit of Mount Chocorua. We’ll descend via the Liberty Trail, creating a loop back to the parking area.

The hike includes multiple rocky sections and scrambles, particularly as we approach the summit. The final climb is rugged and exposed, adding an exciting sense of adventure to the day. Because of the elevation gain, distance, and terrain, this hike is best suited for intermediate to advanced hikers who are comfortable hiking on steep, rocky trails and scrambling over uneven terrain.

The summit itself is one of the highlights. With Chocorua’s distinctive rocky peak and 360° panoramic views, in October, we may even be treated to some beautiful fall color along the way.
